Mizzou New Music Initiative releases 2023 activity summary
The Mizzou New Music Initiative has released its summary of 2023 activities for the Mizzou New Music Ensemble, composition students and Mizzou International Composers Festival. MICF Update: Laraaji replaces William Basinski — joins Katina Bitsicas and Onishi-Beis Duo for July 29 concert
Due to health-related issues, William Basinski will not perform at the July 29th Dismal Niche / Mizzou Interational Composers Festival concert at Studio 4 at McKee Gymnasium. Celestial-ambient music pioneer Laraaji will now headline the 7:30 pm concert, which will also feature new media artist and Mizzou Assistant Professor Katina Bitsicas, and the Onishi-Beis Duo. May 6th application deadline for the 2022 Missouri Summer Composition Institute
The 2022 Missouri Summer Composition Institute will once again be offered in person June 11-18 on the campus of the University of Missouri. The Summer Composition Institute offers an incredible opportunity for young Missouri composers to come together for one week of learning and interacting with other creative minds – and all accepted students will be able to participate FREE thanks to the generosity of the Sinquefield Charitable Foundation. Leigh Muñoz, Assistant Professor of Bassoon at the Conservatory at University of Missouri-Kansas City and a former faculty member at the University of Missouri School of Music, returns to Columbia for a residency from April 14 -18, 2022. The Mizzou New Music Initiative’s The Sound of Art series continues on Tuesday, January 25th, 2022 at 7:30 pm CST with three performances by the Mizzou New Music Ensemble on the Mizzou New Music Facebook page and the University of Missouri School of Music YouTube channel. The Mizzou New Music Ensemble will perform recent works by Yoshiaki Onishi and Alex Berko in a free online concert at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 17.
