Oswald Huýnh (Mizzou Master of Music in Composition, 2022) named as a winner of the 2025-26 Rome Prize
The American Academy in Rome has named Oswald Huýnh (Mizzou Master of Music in Composition, 2022) as laureate of the Frederic A Juilliard | Walter Damrosch Rome Prize in Musical Composition. When composer Oswald Huỳnh was looking for schools to apply to for a master’s degree in music composition, one of his mentors suggested that the University of Missouri School of Music was a school he should keep on his radar. “I was amazed by all the opportunities that were available to the students,” says Huỳnh, who earned his master’s in composition from Mizzou in the spring of 2022. The 2022 Mizzou International Composers Festival returned to live concerts after two years of online-only performances at the 2020 and 2021 MICFs. Alarm Will Sound to perform eight world premiere compositions at the Missouri Theater July 30 to conclude the 13th Annual MICF
The 13th annual Mizzou International Composers Festival concludes Saturday evening, July 30 with a 7:30 Pm (CDT) concert at the Missouri Theatre by acclaimed new music ensemble, Alarm Will Sound. Resident Composer Spotlight: Oswald Huỳnh
Oswald Huỳnh is one of eight Resident Composers selected for the 2022 Mizzou International Composers Festival from a total of 532 applicants from 49 countries. Huỳnh is a composer and bassoonist from Portland, Oregon. He has a Bachelor of Arts from Lewis & Clark College and a Master of Music from the University of Missouri. During his time at Lewis & Clark, Huỳnh was presented the Rena J. Ratte Memorial Award, the highest academic honor given to students, for his compositional work at the college. His principal teachers include Stefan Freund, Carolina Heredia, Texu Kim, and Michael Johanson.

St. Louis Symphony Orchestra to perform works by three Mizzou composers on February 16 at Powell Hall
Three University of Missouri student composers will have their works played at Powell Hall by musicians of the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra (SLSO) at 7:30 pm Wednesday, February 16th, 2022 by SLSO musicians under the direction of SLSO Assistant Conductor Stephanie Childress.
