MICF Resident Composer Spotlight: Caterina Di Cecca

Caterina Di Cecca is one of eight Resident Composers selected for the 2022 Mizzou International Composers Festival from a total of 532 applicants from 49 countries. Ms. Di Cecca earned a Master of Music degree in piano at the Conservatorio di Santa Cecilia in Rome, then completed her Master of Music degree in composition there as well. Ms. Di Cecca also has Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Philosophy from the Università degli Studi di Roma Tre in Rome. She continued her musical studies through the Master Course in Composition of the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia. Mizzou New Music Initiative collaboration with Dismal Niche Arts continues as part of 2022 MICF

From the time that Dismal Niche Arts, a non-profit organization in Columbia, Missouri, started the Columbia Experimental Music Festival in 2015, a partnership between them and the Mizzou New Music Initiative at the University of Missouri seemed inevitable. Alarm Will Sound returns to 2022 Mizzou International Composers Festival as Ensemble-in-Residence for 13th consecutive season

The inaugural Mizzou International Composers Festival took place on the University of Missouri campus in July 2010, and over the next 12 years, MICF has presented premieres of new compositions by a host of Resident and Guest Composers. 2022 Mizzou International Composers Festival returns to live concerts July 25-30 — offering free admission to all events

After two years of presenting performances online due to the COVID-19 pandemic, The Mizzou International Composers Festival is pleased to announce that the 13th annual MICF will return to in-person concerts for 2022. 2020 and 2022 Missouri Composers Project winners honored at March 22nd concert

The Columbia Civic Orchestra (CCO) and the Columbia Chamber Choir performed works by the winners of the 2022 Missouri Composers Project (MOCOP) in concert on Sunday evening, March 20th at First Baptist Church in Columbia. Since the 2020 and 2021 MOCOP concerts were canceled because of COVID protocols, the 2022 concert also featured performances of the winning compositions from the 2020 competition. Mizzou New Music Ensemble and composition graduates reflect on positive MNMI experiences

2022 COMP Festival showcases performances of award-winning compositions by Missouri students

The winning composers in the 2022 Creating Original Music Project (COMP) competition received awards and had their compositions performed at the COMP Festival on Saturday, April 23rd at the University of Missouri in Columbia. The event took place in Sheryl Crow Hall at the Sinquefield Music Center. The 2022 Junior Division COMP winners and honorable mentions with Dr. Jeanne Sinquefield and MU composition professors Dr. Carolina Heredia and Dr. Stefan Freund. The junior division concert, featuring works by the elementary and middle school winners of this year’s competition, was held from 11:30 a.m. – 12.30 p.m.
