Mizzou New Music Initiative to expand thanks to $4.6 million gift

Mizzou New Music Ensemble hitting the road in May
for concert in Texas, tour of South America

The Mizzou New Music Ensemble will hit the road this spring to perform a concert in Fort Worth, TX, followed by a tour of South America that will take them to Argentina, Brazil, Peru and Uruguay. The journey will begin with a performance at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, May 9 at the Amon Carter Museum of American Art in Ft. The Mizzou New Music Ensemble will begin their 2019-20 season with a concert featuring works by two modern masters, a Mizzou alumnus, and a current Mizzou faculty member. The Ensemble (pictured) will perform music by Pierre Boulez, Jennifer Higdon, José Martínez, and Carolina Heredia at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, October 6 at Whitmore Recital Hall on the University of Missouri campus in Columbia. When Third Coast Percussion visits the University of Missouri next week, not only will they be coming directly from the Grammy Awards, they’ll actually be bringing a bit of Mizzou along with them. Student Composers Concert set for Sunday, April 24 at Whitmore Recital Hall

José Martínez selected by Third Coast Percussion
for 2016-17 Emerging Composers Partnership

Mizzou graduate student José Martínez has been selected by Third Coast Percussion to take part in their Emerging Composers Partnership for the 2016-17 season. The Chicago-based ensemble chose Martínez (pictured) and Princeton graduate student Annika K. Socolofsky from among 99 applicants this year for the partnership program, which now is entering its third season. Both composers will take part in a series of collaborative workshops in Chicago and create new works for Third Coast Percussion, which then will be premiered as part of the ensemble’s hometown concert series.
