Mizzou New Music Initiative awards postdoctoral fellowship to Carolina Heredia
The Mizzou New Music Initiative and the University of Missouri School of Music have awarded a postdoctoral fellowship to composer Carolina Heredia. Starting with the Fall 2017 semester and continuing for two years, Heredia (pictured) will teach private composition lessons to Mizzou students; assist with various MNMI programs; and work on interdisciplinary collaborative projects, initiating and supervising student efforts and also completing a major research project herself. Ticket sales for 2017 Mizzou International Composers Festival

Due to maintenance and upgrades to the ticketing system for the Missouri Theatre, the start of ticket sales for the 2017 Mizzou International Composers Festival (MICF) will be delayed until 10:00 a.m. CDT on Friday, June 23. The MICF will take place this year from Monday, July 24 through Saturday, July 29 in Columbia, and will include three public concerts of music from contemporary composers on Thursday, July 27; Friday, July 28; and Saturday, July 29 at the Missouri Theatre, 203 S. Tickets for the 2017 Mizzou International Composers Festival (MICF) will go on sale at 10:00 a.m. CDT on Friday, May 26. Known as the region’s premier showcase for new works by top young composers, the MICF will take place this year from Monday, July 24 through Saturday, July 29 in Columbia, and will include three public concerts. Mizzou New Music Ensemble to present works by Freund, Haas, Visconti, McKenney, and Heruth on Monday, February 27 at Whitmore Recital Hall
The Mizzou New Music Ensemble’s first performance of 2017 will include music from a visiting guest composer, new works written by a longtime faculty member and a Mizzou student, and a sneak preview of this summer’s Mizzou International Composers Festival. The concert is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Monday, February 27 at Whitmore Recital Hall on the University of Missouri campus. Mizzou International Composers Festival announces resident composers for 2017
The Mizzou New Music Initiative (MNMI) has selected eight resident composers to participate in the 2017 Mizzou International Composers Festival (MICF). Presented by MNMI and the University of Missouri School of Music from Monday, July 24 through Saturday, July 29 in Columbia, the eighth annual MICF will feature world premieres of new works written by each of the selected composers. 2017 Mizzou International Composers Festival gets record number of resident composer submissions
A total of 261 composers from around the world applied for the eight resident composer spots at the 2017 Mizzou International Composers Festival, a new record for the MICF. Submissions were received from 25 different countries – also a new record – including Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Denmark, England, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Mexico, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Poland, Russia, Scotland, Serbia, South Korea, Sweden, Turkey, and the United States. The 2017 MICF will be held July 24 – 29 on the University of Missouri campus and at the Missouri Theatre in Columbia.

2017 Mizzou International Composers Festival set for July 24 – 29; applications for eight resident composers now open
The Mizzou New Music Initiative is now accepting applications for eight resident composers to take part in the 2017 Mizzou International Composers Festival (MICF), which will be held Monday, July 24 through Saturday, July 29 on the campus of the University of Missouri in Columbia.
