C.O.M.P. winners perform on KSDK’s Show Me St. Louis

Two of the winners in the 2013 Creating Original Music Project (C.O.M.P.) competition performed this past Thursday, April 11 on Show Me St. Louis, an entertainment news program that airs on NBC affiliate KSDK at 12:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Menea Kefalov and Ande Siegel of Ladue Middle School were the first-place winners this year in the Middle School – Popular division for their song “This Generation.” You can see them performing it and being interviewed by Show Me St. Louis host Julie Tristan in the embedded video below. Mizzou New Music Initiative in the news

The Mizzou New Music Initiative has been in the news for several reasons in recent weeks. Here’s a recap of some recent coverage: Last week’s announcement of the Sinquefield Charitable Foundation’s $1.4 million gift to the Initiative was a featured story on the University’s news service, and in Mizzou magazine and Mizzou Weekly.  Local coverage included stories in the Daily Tribune, Missourian and Maneater, and on KBIA and KOMU. Mizzou New Music Initiative featured in Symphony magazine

The Mizzou New Music Initiative and the Sinquefield Charitable Foundation are prominently mentioned in the cover story of the Winter 2013 issue of Symphony magazine. The article by Frank Oteri is about programs that support emerging composers, and the opening spread also features a nice photo of Alarm Will Sound’s Alan Pierson and composer Yotam Haber taken during the Mizzou International Composers Festival in Columbia. C.O.M.P. Winners on TV in St. Louis

Three of the winners in this year’s Creating Original Music Project (C.O.M.P.) competition had the opportunity this week to perform their winning compositions on local TV in St. Louis. Lily Ibur of Wydown Middle School played her song “Nothing Boy” on Wednesday for the 9:00 a.m. edition of FOX 2 News. 2012 C.O.M.P. winners in the news

The student composers who submitted winning entries in the 2012 Creating Original Music Project (C.O.M.P.) competition are making news throughout the state: The six winners from the St. Louis area were featured Monday in an item by the St. Louis Post-Dispatch‘s Sarah Bryan Miller on the Post‘s Culture Club blog. Gus Knobbe of Webster Groves High School, who won first place in the High School – Fine Art category, also was mentioned in the Post’s Suburban Journals and the Webster Groves edition of Patch.com. Since the post here the other day about media coverage of the Mizzou New Music Summer Festival, several more articles have been published: Resident composer Steve Snowden was interviewed by the Columbia Daily Tribune‘s Aarik Danielsen for a post on the paper’s Art Axis blog, which you can read here.
