Creating Original Music Project (C.O.M.P.) offers
recognition, prizes for student composers in Missouri
Is the next George Gershwin, Duke Ellington or John Williams in a school in St. Joseph, a practice room in Poplar Bluff, a rehearsal hall in Rolla, or somewhere else in the Show-Me State? If so, the Mizzou New Music Initiative’s Creating Original Music Project (C.O.M.P) wants to find that young composer. Zhou Juan, Christopher Dietz win faculty appointments
While the Mizzou New Music Summer Festival was going on, two of our resident composers got some good news regarding their academic careers. Christopher Dietz has won a one-year appointment as a full-time composition instructor at Bowling Green State University, home of the MidAmerican Center for Contemporary Music. Dietz’ music was performed at BGSU in 2008 and 2009 as part of the the university’s annual new music festival. With the first-ever Mizzou New Music Summer Festival now officially part of history, we’ll have photos, audio and video from the inaugural fest available here very soon. Alarm Will Sound profiled in Columbia Missourian
Alarm Will Sound is the subject of a short feature story written by Emily Lynn for today’s Vox magazine, the arts and entertainment section of the Columbia Missourian. Pianist Lisa Moore, who will perform in tonight’s Mizzou New Music Summer Festival concert at the Missouri Theatre Center for the Arts, is featured today in a post on the Columbia Daily Tribune‘s Art Axis blog.
