Inspired by one of the most iconic events leading to the American Revolution, the performance will be the finale of an evening concert featuring iconic and patriotic works celebrating America’s 250th anniversary.

The concert will celebrate the rich musical traditions and enduring spirit of the United States. From the patriotism of The Star- Spangled Banner, Morton Gould’s American Salute, and John Philip Sousa’s The Thunderer to Charles Ives’s imaginative Variations on “America” and the beloved America the Beautiful, the program will reflect both the history and evolving identity of our nation.

John Orfe will be in residence with the Wind Ensemble on October 5 and 7 working with the students on his piece. The residency is sponsored by the Mizzou New Music Initiative.

The Wind Ensemble gives two performances each semester and is conducted by Dr. Brian A. Silvey, Director of the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Music.

Admission to the concert is free for individuals under age 18 and for Mizzou faculty, staff, and students with ID. Tickets for the general public are $6 and available for purchase here.
