November Concerts Present Internationally Acclaimed TAK Ensemble and Tyondai Braxton, Including World Premieres by Three Mizzou Student Composers

Two concerts coming to Columbia in November 2026 will feature performances by internationally acclaimed new classical music performers and educators that will be in residencies with students and faculty at the University of Missouri School of Music. One concert will also include the world premiere of new musical compositions by three Mizzou music students.

On November 10, TAK Ensemble will perform a work by Bethany Younge, a composer and performer whose work interrogates the physicality of music-making, merging acoustic and electronic sound with the visceral presence of the performer.  TAK is a world-renowned mixed-quintet comprising flute, clarinet, violin, percussion, and voice, committed to musical exploration and experimentation, and dedicated to commissioning new works and direct collaboration with composers and other artists. They have premiered hundreds of works since the ensemble’s founding in 2013. They will also perform the world premieres of works by Mizzou students Dominick DeStefano, Mon Ieong Cheok Kai and Aiden Spavale.

The TAK Ensemble concert will be held at the Sinquefield Music Center, Sheryl Crow Hall, Room 132 at 7:30 pm. It is free and open to the public.

On November 13, Tyondai Braxton will perform his solo work after an opening performance by the Mizzou New Music Initiative’s Creative Improvisation Collective. Braxton is an American composer and electronic musician who has been writing and performing music since the mid-1990s. He incorporates electronic and modern orchestral elements into his music, which ranges from solo pieces to large-scale symphonic works. Braxton is the former front man of the experimental rock band, Battles.

The Braxton concert will be held at the Sinquefield Music Center, Sheryl Crow Hall, Room 132 beginning at 7:00 pm. Attendance is free for MU students, staff, and faculty and $20 for the public. Tickets can be found here .
