Five Fall Concerts in Columbia to Showcase Mizzou New Music Initiative Performers and Composers; Applications for Programs Announced

The Mizzou New Music Initiative (MNMI) will present five concerts this fall in Columbia to showcase the program’s newest musical groups and composers. MNMI is also seeking applications from original music composers locally and nationwide to
participate in three of its programs.

MNMI is a diverse array of programs that position the University of Missouri School of Music as a leading center for the composition and performance of new music. The initiative is supported by the Sinquefield Charitable Foundation, led by Dr. Jeanne and Rex Sinquefield. Their vision is to create an incubator for the composition and performance of new music and to showcase Missouri as a center for the music of tomorrow.

Now through Oct. 20: Applications to be selected as a resident composer for the Mizzou International Composers Festival (MICF) will be accepted through Oct. 20. MICF takes place annually in July and features public concerts, presentations, workshops, guest composers, and ensemble-in-residence Alarm Will Sound. Sept. 16-Jan. 20, 2025: Applications for the Creating Music Project (COMP) will be accepted from Sept. 16, 2024 through Jan. 20, 2025. COMP is a statewide competition that recognizes Missouri students (K-12) who compose original works in a variety of musical styles. Winning composers and their schools will be awarded cash prizes and performances at the University of Missouri. The festival takes place Saturday, April 19, 2025.
